Released in conjunction with a CD of the same name, Absolute Garbage is a collecti! on of 15 music videos from the rock band Garbage. Fronted by Shirley Manson, whose smooth and distinctive voice is equally adept at purring as it is growling, the group also includes drummer Butch Vig, guitarist Steve Marker, and bassist Duke Erikson. But make no mistake about it: The visuals are all about the photogenic Manson. It was their breakthrough single "Only Happy When It Rains" that made an impact on both radio and MTV in 1995. Manson, who at the time resembled a fierce, red-headed version of supermodel Kate Moss, appears on screen in a blue minidress that matches her eye shadow and nail polish, and knee-length Doc Martens. Interspersed between random shots of extras dressed like Teletubbies, deconstructed bathrooms, and her bandmates (who are musically gifted but not particularly video friendly), Manson pleads her case for being happy when things "are complicated." That her dress changes in color to pink is almost incidental in the vignette, and "Only Happy When ! It Rains" manages to marry both arty intentions with a rock 'n! ' roll c ool vibe that doesn't come across as either clichéd or lofty. Between 1995 and 2007, when Absolute Garbage was released, the band broke up and got back together a handful of times. But there is a cohesiveness to their look and sound, even as it evolves, that makes them distinctively Garbage. They worked with some of the era's most popular video directors. Fashion photographer Matthew Rolston succinctly captures the mood of "I Think I'm Paranoid," while Samuel Bayer (best known for his work with Nirvana) helmed "Vow," a simple performance piece that captures the band's raw energy. Actually, it's the concert style videos ("When I Grow Up") where the band seems most at home--commanding a stage. While some of the videos are widescreen, the majority are full screen, But all of them pop on the TV screen with their vivid imagery and vibrant colors. The DVD also includes a documentary called "Thanks for Your Uhhh, Support," that weaves in home videos, news clips, and conce! rt footage. While the band's music indicates that Garbage formed organically, it wasn't quite that simple. The three men--all music producers living in Wisconsin at the time--saw a video of Manson performing in a different band and sought out the Scottish singer to front their group. They were smart enough to know that no matter how talented they were, they needed a voice--and face--to define them. --Jae-Ha Kim

Having just returned from a mission to Mars, Commander Ross (Justin Lazard) isn't exactly himself. He's slowly becoming a terrifying alien entity with a one track mindto procreate with human women! When countless women suffer gruesome deaths after bearing half-alien offspring, scientist Laura Baker (Marg Helgenberger) and hired assassin Press Lennox (Michael Madsen) use Eve (Henstridge), a more tempered alien clone, to find Ross and his virulent brood. But they underestimate Eve's! maternal drive, and before long she escapes to mate with Ross in order to create a purer and unstoppable race that could spell doom for mankind. As time is running out, the ultimate battle of human brain over alien brawn takes place in a chilling climax that puts Darwin's theory to the ultimate test and only the strongest species will survive."They could f**k the human race out of existence!" warns Michael Madsen in this inevitable--and inevitably contrived--sequel to 1995's surprise sci-fi hit. He's referring to a celebrated astronaut (Justin Lazard) infected with alien DNA from his history-making Mars landing, and the half-alien Eve (Natasha Henstridge), who was created from alien-human embryo splicing by biochemist Dr. Laura Baker (Marg Helgenberger) in an effort to discover the alien species's vulnerabilities on Earth. While the astronaut sows his gruesomely wild oats with doomed women (resulting in a bevy of creepy kids in alien cocoons), Eve goes into heat until she! and the astronaut can consummate their procreative lust. Sex ! and deat h are served up like money-shots in a porno flick, with an emphasis on gory flesh-regeneration, explosive pregnancies, and slimy-tentacled intercourse. All of which makes this is the kind of derivative schlock that only a true fan could love, but it's boosted to a tolerable level of entertainment by the returning cast (Madsen, Henstridge, and Helgenberger) from the previous film. --Jeff Shannon CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Reproduction Poster Print Style N 11 x 17 Inches - 28cm x 44cm

Sara (Julia Stiles) wants to be a ballerina, but her dreams are cut short by the sudden death of her mother. She moves in with her father (Terry Kinney), who she has not seen for a long time, in Chicago, mainly in the ghetto. She gets transferred to a new school where she is the only white girl there. Her life takes a turn for the better when she is friends with Chenille (Kerry Washington). Later, she falls in love with Chenille's brother, Derek (Sean Patrick Thomas).Save the Last Dance! enjoyed a profitable release in early 2001, with box-office earnings that exceeded anyone's expectations. Its performance illustrates the staying power of a formulaic movie that avoids the pitfalls and clichés that would otherwise render it forgettable. Since there's nothing new here, you'll appreciate the original quirks in a character-based plot that's just around the corner from Flashdance, and just as familiar. Sara (Julia Stiles) gave up a promising ballet career when her mother was killed while rushing to attend her daughter's crucial audition to Juilliard; Sara blames herself for the accident, and at her new, mostly African American high school in Chicago, she's uncertain of her future.

Derek (Sean Patrick Thomas) has no such doubts; his own future is bright, and his attraction to Sara is immediate; they connect (predictably), and Sara's dormant funk emerges, with Derek's coaching, as she learns hip-hop dancing in a local club. Obligatory subplots are e! qually routine: Derek's sister (Kerry Washington) is a single ! mom stru ggling with her child's absentee father; Derek's best friend (Fredro Starr) feels trapped in his gangsta lifestyle; and Sara's once-estranged father (Terry Kinney) is doing his best to correct past mistakes. Within the confines of this standard follow-your-dream drama, director Thomas Carter capitalizes on a script that allows these characters to be real, intelligent, and thoughtful about their lives and their futures. It's obvious that Stiles's dancing was intercut with that of a professional double, but that illusion hardly matters when the rest of the movie's so earnestly positive and genuine. --Jeff Shannon Julia Stiles (MONA LISA SMILE) and Academy Award(R) winner Shirley MacLaine (1983 Best Actress, TERMS OF ENDEARMENT) star in CAROLINA, the endearing romantic comedy about a young woman (Stiles) trying to escape the eccentric ways of her wacky Southern family and meet the man of her dreams -- a nice, normal available guy. Finding him appears easier said than don! e until she meets a handsome and debonair Englishman. Will Carolina's dream turn into a nightmare when she introduces her perfect guy to her less-than-perfect family? And what will her best friend Albert have to say? As funny and charming as SWEET HOME ALABAMA, this Southern belle is sure to sweep you off your ever-loving feet.O - DELUXE EDITION - DVD MovieWhen you compare O to William Shakespeare's Othello, you'll realize just how well this modern adaptation really works. Shakespeare's tragedy transfers nicely to the film's contemporary private school setting, where Othello is now Odin (Mekhi Phifer), star of the basketball team and the school's only African American student. Desdemona is Desi (Julia Stiles), the dean's daughter and Odin's girlfriend, and Iago is Hugo (Josh Hartnett), the coach's steroid-shooting son, who jealously plants seeds of doubt that fester in Odin's mind, leading them all to a tragically violent fate. As directed by Tim Blake Nelson ! (who played the dimwit Delmar in O Brother, Where Art Thou?! ), t his is a clever and serious interpretation of Shakespeare that, sadly, was shelved for two years when its distributor balked at potential comparisons to the Columbine massacre. Such fears were pointless; this well-acted film delivers an anti-violence message that younger viewers will readily appreciate. --Jeff Shannon
